Funeral services will be held on Friday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church for Edwin Maakestad, 85, of Osage, who died on Tuesday, March 26, 1985, at an Osage nursing home. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery and Rev. Paul Metzger will officiate.
Edwin Martin Maakestad, son of Martin and Emelia Nelson Maakestad, was born on December 7, 1899 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church.
Mr. Maakestad and Helen Klemesrud were married on March 9, 1922. The couple had five children, Mrs. Dorothy Berry, Ocean Springs, Mississippi; Maurice and Edwin of Osage; Kenneth of Sacramento, Calif.; and Mrs. Ivan (Kathy) Johnson of Osage. There are 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He also has one sister, Mrs. Gladys Klemesrud, Osage.
Mr. Maakestad was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; sisters, Esther Sorose and Nora Klemesrud; two brothers, John and Leonard Maakestad.
