Ingeborg (Paulsrud) Horgen 1859-1946

FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR PIONEER OSAGE WOMAN

Osage – Funeral services for Mrs. Ingeborg Horgen, 87, charter member of the Lutheran church, will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the church, the Rev. T. P. Solem officiating. Burial will be in the Osage cemetery. She died Wednesday.

She was born in Norway, was married to Gilbert Horgen in that country and they came to the United States in 1880 settling near Clermont where they lived a few years before coming to Mitchell County.

They retired from a farm near Orchard in 1910 and moved to Osage. Her husband died in 1931.

The survivors include 6 sons and 2 daughters, as follows; Henry, Osage; Melvin, Charles City; Edwin, Independence; Ingwald and Clarence, Wausau, Wisconsin; and Oscar, Peoria, Illinois ; Mrs. Elmer Isaacs and Mrs. Emil Lincke, Osage.

Ingeborg Petersdatter was born June 6, 1859 at Framstadeiet in Gran, Hadeland, Oppland, Norway to Peder Torstensen and Karie Eriksdatter Svenserud, the second of their three daughters.

Ingeborg married Gulbrand Gunerius Halvorsen Horgen in 1880 at Gran, Hadeland, Oppland, Norway. After their marriage, the couple emigrated April 1880 to Clermont, Fayette, Iowa.

The couple had 10 children (who all used the surname Horgen):
Henry Gulbrandsen (b July 13, 1881 Clermont, Fayette, Iowa, d April 27, 1972 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Klara Sophie ( b July 8, 1884 Clermont, Fayette, Iowa, d July 19, 1890 Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa);

Peter Melvin (b November 6, 1887 Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d January 31, 1963 Charles City, Floyd, Iowa);

Edwin Rudolph (b July 1, 1889 Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d October 13, 1974 Colwell, Mitchell, Iowa);

Cora Gulbrandsdatter (b September 4, 1892 Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d August 2, 1954 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Ingwal Stanley (b June 26, 1895 Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d January 11, 1993 Harrisonburg, Independent Cities, Virginia);

Gilman Irvine (b February 19, 1898 West Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d April 25, 1945 International Falls, Koochiching, Minnesota);

Amanda O (b March 3, 1889 West Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d March 20, 1986 Charles City, Floyd, Iowa);

Oscar (b November 14, 1902 West Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d November 2, 1976 Shakopee, Scott, Minnesota) and

Clarence Albert ( December 2, 1906 West Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa, d November 8, 1983 Outagamie, Wisconsin).

The family moved west to settle on a farm at Lincoln township, Mitchell County, Iowa between 1884-1887.

Found in the 1900 census at Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa: Gilbert Horgan 41, Isabel Horgan 40, Henry Horgan 18, Melvin Horgan 13, Edwin Horgan 10, Cora Horgan 7, Ingvall Horgan 4, Gilmer Horgan 2, Ottelei Horgan 1.

Found in the 1910 census at West Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa: Gilbert H Horgan 51, Isabelle P Horgan 50, Melvin B Horgan 23, Edwin R Horgan 20, Cora G Horgan 17[19], Ingwal S Horgan 4[14], Gillman E Horgan 12, Amanda C Horgan 11, Oscar Horgan, 7 Clarence A Horgan 5, Martha K Horgan 73.

Found in the 1915 - 1930 censuses at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa:
1915: Isabel I. Horgen age 55.

1920: Gilbert Horgen 60, Isabelle Horgen 60, Jugual Horgen 24, Gilman Horgen 21, Amanda Horgen 19, Oscar Horgen 18, Clarence Horgen 13, Martha Horgen 83.

1925: Gillen H Horgen 65, Isabell R Horgen 65, Oscar Horgen 22, Clarence Horgen 18.

1930: Gilbert H Horgen 71, Isabell Horgen 70, Oscar Horgen 27.

Ingeborg Horgen died December 4, 1946 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. There is a memorial for her at Find a Grave #54941245.
