Jan. 18, 1899Rev. Peter Peshong, of the Stacyville Catholic Church passed from the toils of earth to the rest of the paradise of God on Tuesday evening 10th inst. He had been in charge of the Church at Stacyville for five years, during which time all its interests had been well sustained. The funeral services were held on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Including his two brothers who are clergymen, twenty four priests were in attendance, most of whom took part in the services. An address was given in German by Rev. H. Riese followed by one in English by Rev. B . Coyle. These addresses were very touching and thoughtful. At 3 p.m.the body was taken to the Depot followed by a large company of his parishioners and friends and thence to Milwaukee for burial.
Father Peshong was not only popular among his own people, but had many warm friends outside of his Church. He will be greatly missed in our town. He took a deep interest in all matters relating to the welfare of the town. He was interested in temperance and reform work. This tribute comes from one who is of another faith and communion, but yet who "esteemed him very highly for his works sake."
He rests in peace.
