Illness fatal to Bertha Hanson
Funeral services for a retired Osage teacher, Bertha Hanson, 89, were held Thursday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home. Miss Hanson died February 2, at the White House of Osage Nursing Home. The Reverend Jack Speer, pastor of the United Methodist Church, was in charge of the rites, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
Bertha G. Hanson was born in Stacyville, Iowa, on May 25, 1891, the daughter of Simon and Bessie Johnson Hanson. She attended Grinnell College and received her degree at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
She taught school for many years including schools at Stacyville, Muscatine and Osage, and she was principal in West Union for a time. On returning to Osage she made her home with her brother-in-law and twin sister, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright. Miss Hanson and her twin, Mrs. Bess Wright were probably the oldest twins in Mitchell County.
Miss Hanson was a member of the United Methodist Church and had belonged to Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are her sister, Bess Wright of Osage, and three generations of nieces and nephews.
