Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon for Leslie S. McGillivray, age 52, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church west of Carpenter with the Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge of the services. Interment was in the First Lutheran cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Death came to Mr. McGillivray Thursday morning, April 27, as the result of an accident, the details of which no one exactly knows. He was found in the water tank at his farm home by his son, Curtis, where it was evident he had fallen, after receiving an injury to his head, rendering him unconscious.

He had risen at 5 o'clock that morning to attend to a number of sows that were farrowing, and is believed to have gone to the water tank for a couple of pails of water. Cattle in the yard included a yearling bull which had previously shown an inclination toward playfulness and is believed to have been responsible for his death.

Leslie Simon McGillivray was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. McGillivray at Carpenter, Iowa, September 23, 1897, and was baptized by Father Bowen of Osage. He was confirmed and became a member of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church by the Rev. O. A. Langehough on December 20, 1931.

He was married to Laura Severson November 25, 1920. To this union two children were born, Audrey and Curtis. Their first home was established on a farm near Rose Creek, Minnesota. In 1930 they moved to their farm west of Carpenter.

He was a Veteran of World War I having served in the United States Army, and had been an active member of the American Legion Post in Carpenter and had held the County Offices of Commander and Adjutant. At the time of his death he was a member of the Worth County Fair Board, a Barton Township Trustee and Secretary of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church.

He was a loving husband and father, a conscientious worker in his community, and a faithful, dependable church member.

Mr. McGillivray is survived by his wife, Laura, his dughter, Audrey, Mrs. Hal McKinley of St. Ansgar, a son, Curtis at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. McGillivray of Austin, a brother, Alois of Spring Valley, Minn., and a granddaughter, Nancy Lee McKinley.

The esteem in which he was held in his community was demonstrated by the large crowd that came to pay their respects last Thursday at his funeral, and the fact that more than $300 was donated for a memorial to be maintained in his honor in the new Deer Creek church to be built. This was a project toward which Mr. McGillivray had devoted his time and energy of late to bring to a realization.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Alois Beischel of New Westminister, British Columbia, Canada, and Mrs. Olaf Everson from Filmore, Saskatchewan, Canada.
