OBITUARY OF J. H. DETTMANN

Born in Germany in 1865 and Came
to Iowa in 1892 -- Bought Farm
Here in Year 1914

John Henry Dettman was born on December 26, 1865, at Rehna, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. He lost his father at the age of six. In 1892, at the age of 27, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Iowa, where he found work in Lowden, Cedar county. After three years of faithful toil and savings he was able to found his own home, when he was married to Miss Marie Behrend in 1895.

This union was blessed with four children, three girls and one boy, one of them, a girl, died in infancy. The couple lived on a farm near Tipton
until 1914, when they moved to Mitchell county on the place on which the family now lives, which the deceased purchased at that time.

Mr. Dettmann was known as a diligent and hard working farmer and a good neighbor, and especially a good husband and father. His death came rather suddenly. He took sick Friday evening and although physicians were called immediately, they were unable to stay the fleeting life, and at 3:25 p.m. Sunday May 2,he passed away, the cause being a rupture of the gall bladder.

Mr. Dettman is survived by his wife; three children: Anita Alma, age 16, Irene Augusta Elizabeth, age 13, and John Henry, age 11; one sister, Mrs. John Schroeder; and a nephew, Wm. Dettman.

Mr. Dettmann received christian baptism in infancy and has been a member of the Evangelical church.

Besides the above many friends mourn the loss of a good friend and neighbor.
