ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Kenneth Dale Stromley, 76, of St. Ansgar died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Kenneth was born April 6, 1935, in Deer Creek Township to Carl and Nettie (Halvorson) Stromley. He attended school at Little Cedar through the eighth grade, then worked for Gus Neiss on the farm. Kenneth entered the military in 1958 and was discharged in 1960, serving in Germany during the "Cold War." Following discharge he worked for McKinley's in St. Ansgar, Oliver in Charles City and Wilsons in Albert Lea.
In 1965 he married Judy Fjetland.
He had resided at his current residence since 1968. Being a lifelong horse and animal lover, he enjoyed raising horses, three of which are show horses in other states. Since retirement his main hobby was fixing vehicles and tractors for anyone who needed help.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister Mary Jane; brother Orville Stromley; one niece Patricia McPhail; four brothers-in-law: Darrel Patterson, Ray Rekow, Larry Warrington and Glenn Petznick; and two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Stromley and Marlene (Jackie) Stromley.
Kenneth is survived by his three children: Dan (Lois) of Rockwell, Doug of Mason City and Brenda Brown (Steve Huebsch) of St. Ansgar; five grandchildren: Carrie (Doug) Van Zanten, Corey Stromley, Chelsea (Jeff) Regan, Mark (Amber) Richardson and Matt Huebsch; 10 sisters: Loretta (Ira) Hoffland, Ruth Patterson, Louise (Bob) McPhail, Jane (Jurn) Reisnan, Rose Rekow, Inez (Francis) Hommez, Gladys (Arnold) Groth, Lillian Warrington, Betty (David) Tollefson, Dianne Petznick; one brother Carl Junior Stromley; 41 nieces and nephews and lifelong best friend Jimmy Gunsallus.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements; 641-713-4920.
