FORMER LOCAL LADY HAS LAST SERVICE HEREFuneral services were held at the Macken Funeral home in Rochester on Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Julia Cummings of Osage, Iowa, former local resident. Services were conducted by the Rev. G.W. Powell pastor of the Stewartville Methodist church.
Interment was made here in the Woodlawn cemetery.
Julia Ann Cummings was born at Madison, Wisconsin on March 13, 1853, being 84 years and 6 months old at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Charles B. Cummings in 1880.
Mrs. Cummings died at the Colonial hospital in Rochester on Monday, September 14. Recently she fell and broke her hip at her home in Osage and was taken to Rochester for treatment, but she rapidly grew weaker, and passed peacefully away last Monday.
She spent twenty five years of her life in Stewartville, and for the last few years has made her home at Osage, Iowa.
At an early age she became a member of the Methodist church at Little Cedar, Iowa and on coming to Stewartville 25 years ago transferred her membership here. She was a member of the Methodist Ladies aid and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She always untiringly gave her services for her Masters work.
The deceased was a loving faithful wife and a devoted mother. She lived wholly for the betterment of those with whom she came in contact.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, of Osage, Iowa and one daughter, Mrs. William Wolf of this city, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Her husband and a daughter preceded her in death."
