Ellen (Estes) Lashbrook 1863-1945

Osage – Mrs. George Lashbrook, 81, died Sunday at a nursing home at Rudd where she had been cared for for some time. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion Funeral Home. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

She was born September 20, 1863, as Ellen Estes, at Janesville, Wisconsin. Her parents died when she was two years old and she was reared by an aunt at Verdon, South Dakota.

She spent her girlhood in South Dakota, the moved to Plymouth, Iowa, then back to South Dakota.

She followed the profession of seamstress and was married to George Lashbrook in 1889. They established their home at Stacyville, then moved to Mitchell, where they lived until 1914, then moved to Osage, where her husband died and she made her home with her children.

She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Eula Lashbrook Hesen, Waterloo; a son, Gersham, Osage; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. One daughter and two sisters preceded her in death.

DIES AFTER ILLNESS

Mrs. Ellen Lashbrook, 81, a resident of Osage for many years, died Sunday, October 28, in a nursing home at Rudd. She had been in declining health in recent months.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Champions Funeral Home in Osage, and burial was made in the Osage Cemetery.

Ellen Estes Lashbrook was born on December 20, 1863, at Janesville, Wisconsin, daughter of Jonathon and Aseneth Estes. She died on October 28, 1945, at a nursing home in Rudd, Iowa.

At the age of two, her parents died, and she was then reared by an aunt in Verdun, South Dakota. With her foster parents she came to Iowa, living at the town of Plymouth, and later in young womanhood returned to Verdun.

On October 8, 1889, she was united in marriage to George Lashbrook of Mitchell, South Dakota. They came to Iowa and established their first home at Stacyville, and later moved to Mitchell. To this union there were born three children.

In 1914 the family moved to Osage, where her husband died. Her home was made with he children for the most part the remaining years of her life, until in recent months her declining health made it necessary to secure nursing care, which was in Nora Springs and Rudd.

She was a member of the Osage Methodist church, and remained actrive as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by two children, Eula Lashbrook Jensen of Waterloo, and Gersham Lashbrook of Osage.
