Orville C. Mauer

(February 23, 1928 - December 31, 2010)

Orville C. Mauer, 82, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 31, 2010, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born February 23, 1928 in Stacyville, son of Frank and Elizabeth Adams Mauer. He married Mary Schilling on June 1, 1957 in Stacyville.

Orville was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 45 years, retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army.

Survivors include: his wife; four sons, Scot (Jacqueline) Mauer of Waterloo, Jay (Vicki) Mauer of Cedar Falls, Andrew (Gail) Mauer of Cedar Falls and Nicholas (Kelly) Mauer of Waterloo; two daughters, Julie (Don) Hoth of Waterloo and Jacqueline (Chris) Doyle of Cedar Falls; 18 grandchildren, Jeremy (Jamie) Mauer, Rob (Tara) Mauer, Monica (David Bardsley) Mauer, Eric Koch, Caitlin (David) Boyd, Amy (Josh) Galvin, Melissa (Sam) Winberg, Paul Mauer, Jack Mauer, Christian Mauer, Amber (Andy Shimp) Mauer, April (Jake) Frisch, Shelden Mauer, Mary Mauer, Jeffrey Doyle, John Doyle, Jordan Doyle and Taylor Doyle; eight great grandchildren, Kaley Wulf, Lauren Mauer, Lake Mauer, Mattie Mauer, Jay A. Galvin, Anthony Galvin, Mya Galvin and Isabella Winberg; a sister, Angela (Richard) Ginder of Stacyville; and six brothers, Dale (Teresa) Mauer of Stacyville, Dean (Jeanne) Mauer of Riceville, Darwin (Marlene) Mauer of Denver, Howard (Judy) Mauer of Waterloo, Danny (Dorothy) Mauer of Eldon and Bill (Darla) Mauer of Charles City.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, John Kennedy Mauer; and three brothers, Roman Mauer, Arthur Mauer and Othmur Mauer.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Orville was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi with family and friends. He was a wonderful grandpa to all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. We will all miss him dearly!
