Ralph Schuhart 1919-2006

NORTH NEWTON - Ralph Schuhart, 87, died July 24, 2006, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born May 21, 1919, in Little Cedar, Iowa, the son of Morton and Lois Barker Schuhart. He graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. A resident of North Newton, he taught high school history, geography and economics in Huntington Beach, Calif.
He belonged to First Baptist Church, Newton. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

On Sept. 7, 1958, he married Evelyne Sawatzky in Long Beach, Calif. She survives.
Other survivors include: numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virgie Rake.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Newton, with Pastor Terry Tareila presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the American Baptist Missions, in care of the funeral home, 215 North Main, Newton, KS 67114.
