Funeral services for Mrs. Birchard (Ethel) Bower, 72, formerly of Osage, were held Thursday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home. Mrs. Bower died Saturday, December 22, 1984 in a Scottsdale, Arizona nursing home.

Reverend James S. Pittman officiated at the service with burial in the Osage Cemetery.

Mrs. Bower was born February 1, 1912 in Springfield, Illinois, to Ben and Elizabeth Womack. She graduated from schools in Springfield and from nurse's training school at Madison Hospital at Nashville, Tennessee. She took one year of post graduate training at the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

On September 19, 1944 she married Birchard Bower in Osage.

Mrs. Bower worked at the former Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for four years and was superintendent of nurses at the former Nissen Hospital in Osage for many years. She was also the Mitchell County health care nurse. Mr. and Mrs. Bower lived on a farm near Osage until retiring and moving to Phoenix, Arizona.

Survivors include her husband, Birchard; one son, James of Phoenix, Arizona and one brother, Albert Womack of Oakland, California.
