Resident Dies

MITCHELL, IOWA - Oct. 7 — News has been received here of the death of Archie Joy, formerly of this community, by his sister, Mrs. H. M. Piper.

He died at La Jolla, California, where he had resided In recent years.

Mr. Joy's first wife was Ada Stacy, of Osage, who died. His second wife, their 10-year-old son and a daughter of the first marriage, Ruth, survive him.

Archie H. Joy was born March 2, 1881 in Iowa, the son of Benjamin Cartwright Joy and Harrieta Alcina (Jones) Joy. He married Ada Stacy, the daughter of William Wallace Stacy and Jennie.

Ada’s father was born in 1851 and died in 1907 and is buried in the Osage Cemetery (Section #0934)

The sister mentioned in the obit was Emma (Joy) Piper, the wife of Horace Piper.

In 1910 Archie and Ada were living in Mission, San Diego, California: Archie 28; Ada L. 26; Ruth G. 3; and Jenny H Stacy 51, mother-in-law widow.

Ada L. (Stacy) Joy is buried in the Osage Cemetery (Section #0934). Theres a memorial on Find A Grave for her but it has Ada L. Joy Stacy 1883-1910 and the Osage Cemetery lists her as Ada L. Joy -- death/burial September 9, 1910.

By 1918 Archie had remarried and his World War I Draft registration shows his wife as Blanche Frost Joy.

In the 1920 US Census; San Diego --

Archie H., 37, born Iowa,
Blanch, 35, born Minnesota;
Ruth, 13, Iowa;
Wallace F., 2 6/12, born California.

By 1920, Ada’s mother Jennie is living in Portland, Oregon with her daughter Laura (Stacy) Klein and husband Joseph Klein and in 1930 they are in Seattle, King, Washington.

Jennie Stacy died June 8, 1945 in Seattle.

Blanche (Frost) Joy, the 2nd wife of Archie was born January 3, 1882 in Minnesota and died March 29, 1961 in San Diego. Her mother’s maiden name is listed as Gibson.

Archie and Ada (Stacy) Joy’s daughter Ruth Joy was born February 28, 1906 in Iowa, and died March 11, 1990 in San Diego. She married Escher. Her California death record shows her father as "Joy", and her mother’s maiden name as "STACY".

Archie and Blanche’s son Wallace Frost Joy was born April 26, 1917 in California and died August 26, 2007. His birth record just says Frost Joy born same date and shows his mother’s name as Frost.
