MRS. JOHN WEINSCHENK

Mrs. John Weinschenk, age 64, passed away at Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on May 27th. Two years ago she suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered, and two weeks before her death a heart attack which was the cause of her death.

Susan Kasel was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Kasel at Lomatte, Iowa on May 5, 1881. At the age of 20 she moved to Willamdale, Kansas with the family. She was one of six children. She received her education in the Catholic school at St. Donatus, Iowa.

On October 16, 1907, she was united in marriage to John Weinschenk of Springbrook, Iowa, at St. Peter's church, Willamdale, Kansas, but Rev. Hess. They established their first home on a farm near Springbrook, Iowa. In 1913 they moved to Mitchell County on a farm near New Haven. Later they settled in New Haven where she lived to the time of her passing.

To them were born six children: Melvin of Osage, Mrs. A.D. O'Donnell (Myrtle) of Oakland, California, Mrs. Paul Green (Marjorie) of New Haven, Mrs. Clayton Olson (Ardella) of Osage, Melbert, U.S. Navy who is missing since March 9, 1944 in the South Pacific, Mrs. Claire Condon (Ardis) of New Haven.

The message stating that Melbert was missing was a severe blow to his mother, but she never gave up hope of hearing from him.

Surviving, besides her husband and children are her aged father who is 92 years old, thirteen grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Nick Kasel of Willowdale, Kansas, Mrs. Math Konarady, Marshfield, Wisconsin, Mrs. John Saillonor, Spivey, Kansas.

Her mother, a sister, Maime Penaire, and a brother, Peter, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Memorial Day, May 30, 1945, at St. Peters Church in New Haven with a requiem high mass and burial was in the cemetery nearby. The last rites were conducted by Rev. Fr. John Mayer.
