Regina (Gilles) McCarville 1904-1998

A funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Good Council, Moorland, for Regina McCarville, age 94, of Waterloo, formerly of Fort Dodge. She died June 29, 1998 at her home. Rev Father Timothy Boeklman officiated and the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, Fort Dodge, was in charge.

Regina was born March 19, 1904 in New Haven and attended St. Mary's Academy in New Haven. She moved to Riceville with her family in 1919. She graduated from Riceville High School and in 1928, she graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College with a bachelor's degree in music education. Previous to attending college, she taught in the rural schools, Mt. Hope and the Neidert School.

After college, she taught music in Jesup, Moorland, and Riceville. She retired in 1974. She was the original organist at Holy Rosary Church in Fort Dodge from 1947 to the mid-1980's. She married Clarence B. McCarville in 1936 at Walker, Minnesota. The couple lived in Fort Dodge and later moved to Waterloo.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Nora Fox Gilles; a brother, John Gilles; and her husband, Clarence in 1978.

Those that survive her include three daughters, Noreen Holloway and Narcy Hartleip of Waterloo; Nancy McCarville of Downers Grove, IL; four grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert Gilles of Salem, OR; a sister Marcy Sprung of Riceville.
