Pioneer Resident
of Osage Dies
in CaliforniaOSAGE, IOWA — A former pioneer resident, Mrs. Bina Van Leuven, 90 died at a rest home in Long Beach, Calif. She had been hospitalized for the past ten years. Funeral rites were held on January 24, at Long Beach, with interment there.
Born near Osage as Bina Schultheis, she lived in Osage, managing a rooming house and hotel on the location of the present Champion Funeral Home. She and her husband, Will Van Leuven left Osage 45 years ago. He was killed several years ago in a California earthquake.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carl Stonewall, Memphis, Tennessee; and Mrs. Tom Sterling, Upton, Wyoming.
Mrs. Sterling had spent the winter in Long Beach, to be with her mother. There are also four stepsons, and one brother, John Schultheis, Osage.
Seven brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Bina Schultheis was Albina Mary Schultheis, the daughter of John George Schultheis and Rebecca Ann (Hadder) Schultheis.
Her first husband was "Kline", first name unknown. Her 2nd husband was William Michael Van Leuven 1857-1934. He is buried in the Center Grove Cemetery, Westbro, Atchison, Missouri along with his first wife.
