WILLIAM P. 'BILL' GOODALE

MANLY, IOWA - William P. "Bill" Goodale, 70, of Manly, died Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) at the Hennepin County Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, with the Rev. David G. Kucera officiating. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St. in Manly, where a scripture service will also be held at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the William P. Goodale Memorial Fund.

Bill was born September 26, 1931 in Floyd County, the son of Burl and Lillian (Wagner) Goodale. He graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1948 and from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1950.

Bill entered in to the United States Air Force in 1951, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Veronica Theis on Sept. 27, 1952, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa.

Bill worked as a hired man on several farms in Mitchell County in the early 1950s. In 1955 he was engaged in farming on his own in Mitchell County and later in Floyd County. In 1968, the couple moved to Plymouth and in 1971, to Manly.

Bill raised horses on his farms, and enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing, quilting, woodworking, playing cards and dancing. He also loved to fish, camp, go for bike rides, and walk with his group of walkers and have coffee with them afterward. Bill was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Iowa State Cyclone fan, but his great joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in both Charles City and Mason City and a member and lay distributor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

William is survived by his wife, Veronica, of Manly; eight children and their spouses, Wilma and Mike Romig, of Manly, Verlene (Cannon) and Rod Dunlavey, of Traer, Virgil and Marcia Goodale, of Mason City, LeAnn (Huse) Goodale, and Vincent Copas, of Clear Lake, Mark and Kristy Goodale, of Ames, Larry and Jill Goodale, of Ames, Christine and Dennis Krauth, of Forest City, and Brad and Jodi Goodale, of Muscatine; and 17 grandchildren, Wesley Romig, his wife, Melissa, and their children, Hayden and Hannah, all of Mason City, Nathan Romig and his wife, Ginger, of Urbana, Alan and Andrew Cannon, of Traer, Tim, Tara, and Travis Goodale, of Mason City, James Huse, his wife, Kathy, and their children, Ali Jo, Andrea and Alicia, all of Lake Mills, Lora Huse and her children, Dylan and Malania, all of Clear Lake, Kyle Goodale, of Clear Lake, Donna, Samantha and William Goodale, all of Ames, Christopher "Topher" and Matthew Krauth, both of Forest City, and Veronica and Victoria Goodale, both of Muscatine. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Kenneth and Ruby Goodale, of Osage, Viola and Matt Klassen, of Adams, Minn., Dale and Gertie Goodale, of Osage, Arlene and Curtis Fox, of Osage, Dean and Joan Goodale, of Mason City, and Irene and Chuck Johnson, of Cedar Rapids; one sister-in-law, Marlene Goodale, of Little Cedar; his mother-in-law, Gladys Theis Grube, of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law; a nephew, and one brother, Vernon Goodale.
