TOM VON TERSCH
OSAGE - Tom Von Tersch, 62, of Osage, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2001) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage, of cancer.
He was born Oct. 25, 1939 at Omaha, Neb., the son of William and Cecilia (Smith) Von Tersch. He moved to Osage with his family in 1946 at the age of 7.
Tom attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1957. He went to Loras College, graduated from NIACC, and then continued his education and graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in 1965.
Tom was employed at the Champion Funeral Home as a funeral director for 35 years. He became part owner with Tom Bucheit in 1980. Tom retired in March of 2000.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Lewis on Aug. 13, 1960. He was an avid race fan. His friends called him Harry.
He enjoyed golfing, canoeing, and as he termed it, recreational mowing.
He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Director's Association and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m.
Tom will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father, by his wife, Marilyn; and son, Ed; and daughter, Denise. He is also survived by three sisters, Sheila Moskens and her husband, Duane, of Minneapolis, Peg Bowe, of Mason City, Joan Kleckner and her husband, Bruce, of Fresno, Calif.; one brother, John Von Tersch and his wife, Annette, of Cedar Falls; three nieces; six nephews; and his dog, Rudy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Michele Ann; one son, John Martin; and one sister, Kathy Veren.
