Hans O. Mehus
St. Ansgar Resident
Buried This Week

Hans O. Mehus, son of Ole H. and Margit T. Mehus, was born October 16, 1855, at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin. He was baptized in the Lutheran church at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, the same year and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Silver Lake, Iowa in 1970.

On April 19, 1881, he married Miss Ragnild A. Trom at St. Ansgar, Iowa. They made their home on the old Trom homestead, which is the present home of the Mehus family.

Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, all living, namely, Minnie Mehus, Annie Mehus and Mrs. Clifford Thorson, all of St. Ansgar.

Mr. Mehus has been a member of the First Lutheran Church, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, ever since April 30, 1892.

He has enjoyed a good health until about a year ago. A persistent complication of kidney disease resisted every effort of the doctors to effect a cure. For over two months he was under special care at the St. Paul Hospital, St. Paul, Minnesota, but the doctors there finally gave up hope of effecting any permanent relief. He returned from the hospital April 2 and felt comparatively well for a time. He suddenly became worse on April 6. On Thursday, the 17th of April, he slept peacefully away.

For a long time Mr. Mehus has spoken often about the end of life and his faith and trust in his dear Savior, to whom he looked steadfastly for life and salvation, and trusting in whom he gladly said farewell to this life.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Ragnild Mehus, his three daughters, above mentioned, and four sisters, Mrs. Edwin Everson and Mrs. Thea Hagen, both of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Mrs. Norman Hill, of Conrad, Montana, Mrs. George Olson, of Chicago, Illinois.

The funeral took place at St. Ansgar Monday afternoon, April 21, his pastor, the Reverend Waldeland, officiating and his remains were laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery north of St. Ansgar.

Present at the funeral from away were the following: J. E. Hagen, of St. Paul, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Everson, Mrs. Thea Hagen and Mr. Tufe, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Benson and Mrs. Inga Benson, of Lansing, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Benson, of South Dakota; Mrs. Helen Reyerson, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Severson, Tom Grow, Amos Grow and Olaus Grow, all of Northwood, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Nystuen, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Evens and Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Brenna, of Osage, Iowa.
