Hilarius Henry Krones was born on November 11, 1846 in Germany. He immigrated to the United States with his mother, Katherine, and two brothers, Nicolaus and Mathias. They landed at the Port of Philadelphia on April 20, 1873 and settled in Chicago, Illinois.
"Hillary" married Katherina Schmidt about 1875 in Chicago. Katherina was born on October 10, 1854 in Chicago, Illinois. Katherina and Hillary were the parents of nine children: Katie, Anna (Mrs. Henry Severson), Mary Agnes (Mrs. William J. Sanborn), Clara Martha (Mrs. Michael S. Michaels), Susan Hilda (Mrs. Frank Nichols), Henry, John Matthew, Joseph Jacob and Elizabeth Maria (never married).
The Krones family resided at 156 Orchard Street in Chicago, Illinois until the migrated to New Haven, Mitchell County, Iowa in 1882 as a number of their friends had done. Hillary farmed, owned and operated the first pool hall in New Haven before the turn of the centruy. He also had a livery stable and boarders stayed next door where the family lived. This was across from St. Peter's Church.
Katherina passed away on October 14, 1897 at home in New Haven. She suffered from a ruptured appendix. Katherina is buried at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Haven, Iowa.
The older girls helped Hillary with the younger children. In 1928 Hillary moved to Osage and lived with his daughter Clara Michels.
Hillary passed away at his daughter Clara's home in Osage on September 27, 1936 and is buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in New Haven, Iowa.
