RICEVILLE RITES FOR JOHN MAXWELL

Riceville, Iowa – John Maxwell, 88, died Sunday at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage.

He had been living at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Mae Maxwell, here. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Riceville. The Rev. Norman Halliday will officiate. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge.

Surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Lashbrook, Osage; two sisters; Mrs. Agnes Shafer, Newton; Mrs. Jessie Lewis, Mechanicsville; a brother, Gilbert, South Dakota.

The 1925 Iowa Census shows his parents as Charlie Maxwell and Mary McDowell and her parents as William Davis and Louise Hagerman.

The foster daughter mentioned in the obit was Mildred Jorgenson -- according to a marriage article found in Globe Gazette for her and Kenneth Lashbrook of Osage, August 23, 1940. They were married in the John Maxwell home.
