Donald Barrett

Funeral services for Donald Barrett, 78, of Osage were at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. He died Wednesday, August 29 at an Iowa City Hospital. Reverend Leon Connolly officiated at the service with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell.

Donald Victor Barrett was born October 16, 1905 in Fayette County and attended schools in the Fayette and West Union areas.

On February 28, 1927 he was united in marriage to Calista Weber. They moved to Mitchell in 1938 and he was a supervisor in the hydro-electric plant for Interstate Power Co., from 1938 until retiring in 1967. At this time they moved to Randalia in Fayette County where they lived on a small farm from 1967 until 1972. After his wife's death Donald returned to Osage where he resided until his death.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Delores) Kaduce of Winnebago, Minnesota, Mrs. James (Margaret) Fink of Nora Springs and Mrs. Elizabeth Lerum of Glasford, Illinois; two sons, Thomas of Elmore, Minnesota and George of Peoria, Illinois; 36 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and several step great-grandchildren and one brother, James Barrett of San Jacinto, California.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Calista; one daughter, Marion (Mrs. Russell Marton) and one son, John.
