Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 1984 at the Mona Lutheran Church for Joy I. Nelson, 69 of Mona who died Saturday, February 11 at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar.
The Reverend Gaylord Grant officiated at the service and burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona.
Joy Nelson was born October 18, 1914 in LuVerne, the only child of George and Minnie Legler Watkinson. She graduated from Garner High School, Garner and received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught several years in rural schools in Hudson, Akron, Union Township and Otranto.
She was united in marriage on April 1, 1938 to Harlan Nelson of Mona and lived in Mona the remainder of her life.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan; and her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Nelson, Ankeny, and Patricia A. (Nelson) Hanson, Cartersville, GA; four sons, Harlan (Fred), Rolla, MO; Curtis (Jerry) Columbia, MO; Gordon (Tom), Osage and Leon (Dick), Charles City, and nine grandchildren.
