Mathias John “Matt” Koenigs 1900-1949
Funeral services for Matt Koenigs, 49, who took his own life by hanging late Saturday at the farm he operated with his brother, Henry, six miles northeast of Stacyville, according to Mitchell County Sheriff Ted Horn of Osage, were Tuesday in the Catholic church at Meyer. Burial was in Meyer cemetery.
Sheriff Horn said Koenigs had been depressed for the last year and was to have submitted to treatment this week at the Mayo clinic at Rochester. He was born in Mitchell county in 1900, son of Peter and Anna Koenigs, and had lived in the county all his life.
Math remained single all of his life and worked as hired help most of his earlier life. He later joined his brother, Henry, in partner farming. Math took a lot of pride in his work, especially planting corn with horses. His hobby was playing cards.
