Ethel Jane (Ketchum) Hendricks 1878-1964

MRS. ETHEL J. HENDRICKS

Riceville – Mrs. Ethel J. Hendricks, 85, died Monday night at the Riceville Hospital.
She was president of the First National Bank here.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church here. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with Chisholm Funeral Home in charge.

Born July 13, 1878, at Earlville, she was the daughter of Eugene and Emeline (Jones) Ketchum. She attended Upper Iowa University and was married to Burtella Hendricks at Geneva. He was president of the First National Bank until his death in 1936.

Mrs. Hendricks was a charter member of Victoria Chapter 304, Order of Estern Stars, its first worthy matron and a to year member. She had served several terms as Mitchell County chairman of the Iowa Federation of Women’s Club and was a district director of the federation.

Mrs. Hendricks had served as president of the First National Bank here since the death of her son, Elbert K. Hendricks, former mayor of Riceville and bank president. It was E. K. Hendricks who, with his sister, gave the site of Lake Hendricks in memory of his father. He died in 1962.

Surviving Mrs. Hendricks are her daughter, Mrs. Gene (Alice) Chapman, Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, a brother, Frank Ketchum, Charles City; two sisters; Miss Edith Ketchum, Riceville; Mrs. Flo Bell, Oelwein.
