Obituary

Died, while on a visit at the home of her sister in Lincoln Township, [Mitchell county] on Saturday, November 14th [1903]. Miss Mary A. Cous, in the seventy-fifth year of her age.

Miss Cous was born in Cayuga County, New York, August 4, 1829. At the age of seventeen, she removed thence with her family to Wisconsin, where she resided for some years, coming then to Iowa where for the last eighteen years she has made her home most of the time with her youngest brother, Mr. William Cous, near Charles City.

She leaves behind her two brothers and three sisters, of whom only two were permitted to be present at the funeral.

Thus a most gentle and kindly spirit has passed away, a woman to whom thoughtfulness and helpfulness toward others was a spontaneous manifestation of her inner life; so loving and sympathetic toward children, especially that they felt drawn to her as by a magnet; and herself full of that childlikeness and simplicity of character that makes the true disciple of the Master. Through long and wearying bodily suffering she bore herself with a sweet and commanding patience, that strive to lighten the burdens of those who lovingly cared for her; and when the hour of departure came, passed on in peaceful hope.

The funeral services were held at the home where she died on Monday, November 16. Reverend Ralph of the Universalist Church officiating in the presence of many friends and neighbors.

EAST ST. CHARLES.

Word has been received of the death last week of Miss Mary Couse at Mitchell. She was an aged maiden lady and had always made her home with her brother, Wm. Couse, who resides in East St. Charles.

About a month ago, she went to Mitchell to visit her aunt, Mrs. A. Andrews. She was stricken with paralysis while there and did not recover.

She had many friends here who mourn her death. The funeral took place at the home of her aunt at Mitchell and the body was interred in Mitchell County.
