Memorial Services
For Loren Mayer

Memorial services will be held Tuesday morning, June 12 at 8 o'clock at the Visitation Church in Stacyville for Sgt. Loren J. Mayer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Mayer.

Loren was first reported missing on December 17. His parents received that message on January 26, 1945, and since that time no word of his whereabouts was heard until May 24. Then an official notice from the War Department stated that he was killed on December 17, during the invasion of Belgium.

Loren was born at Stacyville in 1919 and at the time of his death was 25 years and 4 months old. He was employed on his father's farm until the time he was inducted into the army on August 13, 1941. He received his basic training at Fort Riley and at Fort Funaton, Kansas. He first joined the Cavalry Division, this was later discontinued and he joined the Armored Division. He went over seas in 1944 and served as a tank driver in the 9th Armored Division at the time he lost his life.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Mayer; three brothers, Sgt. Eugene P. Mayer with the armed forces in Paris, France, Urban of Austin, Minnesota, and Robert, at home; and one sister, Magdalen, (Mrs. Leo F. Thiele) of Austin.
