WHITAKER, Allene 1848-1883

WHITAKER, BENEDICT

Mrs. D. H. Whitaker

The subject of this sketch -- Allene, daughter of Edson and Pamela Benedict -- was born at Coldwater, Blanch county, Michigan, March 4, 1848. In 1855 she accompanied her parents from Coldwater to Osage, where they settled. She was married to D. B. Whitaker December 17th, 1858.

Mrs. Whitaker contracted a severe cold while attending the county fair a little over a year ago and never recovered from its effects, but failed gradually until the time of her death, at 5 o'clock on the morning of Friday, December 21st.

Although she was not a member of the Congregational church, she was always in sympathy with its movements. She took a deep interest and active part in the work of the church and also of the Sunday School, of which she was a member. The presence of her mother and brother during the last days of her illness was a great consolation to her in the closing hours of her life. She died as she had lived, loved and respected by all her acquaintances.

The heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the bereaved husband and three children who mourn her loss.
