Bertha Roehr Gast

Mrs. Bertha Caroline Gast, wife of George Gast, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Roehr, was born in Cedar township, Mitchell county, Iowa, February 13, 1874.

The days of her childhood and youth were spent in the parental home. She was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek German Lutheran church and received her secular education in the rural schools of her community.

On September 28, 1893, she was united in marriage to George Gast of Cedar township.

In the wedlock three children were born: Clifford and Glen Gast and Mrs. Robert Tresemer, all of this community.

The family lived on their farm until ten years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Gast moved to Nora Springs where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Mrs. Gast has been a loyal and active member of the local congregation and will be missed not only in the home but also in the different activities of her church and organizations.

The departed sister has enjoyed fairly good health until about a year ago when she had the misfortune of falling and breaking her arm from which she never fully recovered.

She is survived by her husband, the above mentioned children, eight grandchildren and one brother, Alvin Roehr, of Osage, Iowa.

Mrs. Gast passed away suddenly and unexpectedly February 11, 1939. The cause of her death was heart disease. Her last words were a quotation from one of her favorite hymns.

Funeral service was conducted by her pastor, O.C. Myhre, at the home at 1 o'clock and the Rock Creek Lutheran church at Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, February 13, 1939. Interment was made in the cemetery near Nora Springs.
