Obituary
Augusta Sophia Boeck was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, on October 21, 1856 and passed away at her home on Ash street in Osage, Iowa, February 21, 1939, at the age of 83 years.
The deceased was baptized in the Lutheran faith in infancy. The years of her childhood and youth were spent in her native community. Here she was united in marriage with Sever Spaanum March 7, 1882.
The Spaanums, as newly-weds, came to Mitchell county, Iowa and settled on the farm in Cedar township where the son, Adolph and family now reside. This was their home until December 7, 1915, when they moved to their home in Osage. Mr. Spaanum passed away February 26, 1929; a son, Carl, preceded him September 19, 1823.
Mrs. Spaanum had enjoyed good health throughout her long life. Her husband's death had been sudden and at that time she had expressed the desire that she too might pass without lingering illness. Her wish was granted. The day of her death found her about her household duties as usual. She was stricken as she was crossing the front room with the mail in her hand. Her passing was instant and evidently painless. Death was ascribed to trombosis.
To Mrs Spaanum home was a shrine; her family the object of untiring devotion. She is survived by a son, Adolph, and a daughter, Hattie. The latter has been her mother's constant companion. She is also survived by four grandchildren, and by a sister, Mrs. Andrew Hoff, of Mt. Horeb, Wis.
Funeral services will be held at the home, Friday, February 24, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Osage cemetery.
