A. J. McPhail
Albert J. McPhail was born February 23, 1872, the son of Robert McPhail and Mary Helen Foster McPhail on a farm near Mitchell, Iowa.
His boyhood was spent in the vicinity of Pleasant Valley and Union, later moving with his parents to a farm near Little Cedar.
On October 9, 1895, he married Nettie Emerson and began housekeeping on their farm northeast of Little Cedar.
Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. McPhail united with the Baptist church of their community of which he was a faithful member, serving as trustee and deacon for many years.
In 1914 he sold his farm and moved to Little Cedar. Although the home was in town, he spent much time farming various farms he owned near. At one time he was partner with Charles Woodwiss in operating the Little Cedar creamery.
For the past couple of years his health had been failing and after a serious illnes of several weeks, passed away at his home January 31, 1939.
He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Thelma, now Mrs. Clinton Penney; and Myra, now Mrs. Oscar Johnson. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters; Mrs. Julia Morrissey, Waterloo; Mrs. Minnie DeLaney and Mrs. Emma Emerson, Little Cedar.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Mrs. Helen Decker and brother, J. W. McPhail.
