HELEN HALFMAN

STACYVILLE - Helen Halfman, 96, died Sunday (Oct. 15, 2000) at Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Interment will be in Visitation Catholic Cemetery, Stacyville.

Friends may call from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Visitation Catholic Church Hall, Stacyville. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen was born July 10, 1904, in Riceville, the daughter of John and Susan (Lentz) Hartogh. She was educated in country school near New Haven.

Helen married George Halfman on Oct. 25, 1932, at Riceville. They farmed near Stacyville. She was employed at Farmers Produce in Osage and the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. George died on Dec. 31, 1976.

Helen was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.

She is survived by one son, Jim Halfman and his wife, Jan, of Byron, Minn; four daughters, Irma Hamm of Charles City, Theresa Minard of La Porte City, Vera Walsh of Osage and Kathy Borchardt and her husband, Denny, of Mason City; one sister, Mary Koenig of Pontiac, Mich.; 34 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; an infant son, George Jr.; a daughter, Mary Ann Popp; three sons-in-law, Ivan Walsh, Daryl Minard, and Leonard Hamm; three brothers, Ben Hartogh, Mike Hartogh and Peter Hartogh; and four sisters, Katie Hartogh, Frances Grube, Agnes Kramer and Barbara Koenig.
