Rites held for former Osage
pastor, Rev. Obert HovenFuneral rites were held Monday at the Badger Lutheran Church, Badger, Iowa, for a former Osage Pastor, the Reverend Obert Hoven, 62, who died October 24, following an illness of several months. Burial was there.
In charge of the rites were the Reverend LeRoy Elster of Sioux Falls, the Reverend Paul Otto of Humboldt and Reverend James Carpenter of Bode.
Obert Hoven was born December 6, 1917, in Zumbrota, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Land's Lutheran Church. He attended the Zumbrota schools, entering Luther College in 1936. He enrolled at Luther Theological Seminary in 1940, graduating in 1944.
Ethel Elster and Obert Hoven were married in June 1944, and he assumed his first parish at Lily, SD at that time. In 1950 he became pastor of a church in River Falls, Wisconsin, and in Ridgeway, Iowa in 1953. He became pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage in 1959, remaining until he assumed the pastorate of the Badger Church in 1971, a position he held at the time of his death.
During his tenure at Our Savior's he was instrumental in the founding of Faith Home in Osage and Handicap Village at Clear Lake. He was a member of Kiwanis Club here.
Surviving are his wife Ethel of Badger; two sons, Michael of Marion and Philip of Waterloo; two daughters, Diane Hoisten of Badger and Sharon David of Fort Dodge; and four grandchildren.
