HANSEN, GARSTENSEN

C.J. Hansen was born in Ballum, Schlesvig, Denmark, February 9, 1853. There he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.
In 1868 he married Herlig Garstensen, in 1882 he emigrated to the United States, where he made his home at once in Mitchel County, Iowa, his family followed him here the following year.
He settled on a farm northeast of St. Ansgar where he has made his home since.
Their marriage was blessed with seven children, three of these having passed away some years ago.
Mr. Hansen had enjoyed good health till about two weeks ago when he was taken sick. He hovered between life and death for a part of this time, finally departed from this life, as we hope to meet his children who went before him, Sunday morning, September 5, 1909 at 4:30 at the age of 56 years, 6 months, and 26 days.
He is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters who remain to greatly mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.
The funeral was conducted at the U.N.L. church and his remains were laid to rest in the St. Ansgar cemetery.
