CAME TO ST. ANSGAR FROM NORWAY AND WAS CARPENTER FOR MANY YEARS

Rites for Andrew Havig, 76, who died at his home here last Thursday, were conducted at the First Lutheran church Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge, following brief services at the home. Burial was made in the First Lutheran cemetery.

Andrew Havig, son of Frederick and Johanna Havig, was born on a farm near Braaten, Hedeamrken, Norway, November 10, 1857. He was baptized July 8, 1858 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith October 6, 1872.

When he was 20 years of age he left Norway and came directly to St. Ansgar to join his brother, Ole, who had come here earlier. He had learned the carpentering trade before coming to this country and he continued in this occupation for nearly 50 years with the exception of a short period he spent in proving a claim near Crookston, Minn.

He was married to Barbara Roe February 7, 1890 and the following month the couple moved to Bellingham, Washington, where they lived until 1893 when they returned to St. Ansgar where the family has lived continuously since.

Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Havig, five of whom survive, a daughter, Mabel, dying when a child. The children who, with his wife, survive are; Mrs. K.O. Vold of Northwood, F. Oscar of St. Ansgar, Leonard T. of Rollette, N.D., Harold R. of Owatonna, Minn., and Ray W. of Des Moines. Two grandchildren also survive.
