Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church on Friday, October 4, 1946 for Charlie Halverson, the Rev. O.A. Langehough in charge of the obsequies. Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery.
Karl John Halverson, known to all as Charlie, was born to Lars and Inga Halverson on January 13, 1878 near Otranto, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Olsen of the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar. He spent most of his life in and around St. Ansgar with the exception of two years in Fort Pierre, S.D., when he homesteaded.
Karl had been ailing for 11 months and was taken to University Hospital at Iowa City on September 16 this year. Observations there showed he was suffering from cancer of the intestinal tract, and he passed away on October 2, 1946 at the age of 68 years.
He leaves to mourn his loss, two sisters, Helga Thomas and Luella Libersky, also seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, three sisters, Ida, Isabell and Gena and three brothers, Helmar, Oscar and Sever.
Pallbearers at the services were; Paul Rosel, Anton Groth, John Tollefson, Walter Moen, Jim Hume and Henry Priem.
