ROY W. HACKBART
OSAGE, IOWA - Roy W. Hackbart, 87, died Saturday, August 21, 1999, at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Champion Funeral Home, Osage - (515) 732-3706.
Roy was born July 9, 1912, on the family farm in Rock Township, Mitchell County, the son of Edward and Wilhelmina (Tabbert) Hackbart. He attended the Rock Township School No. 5 until the family moved to Osage in 1924. He continued his education in the Osage schools.
He married Mabel Kristiansen at her parents' home in McIntire on June 1, 1941.
Roy farmed, was an active member of the Farm Bureau, past president of Mitchell County Swine Association, and was a breeder of Spotted Poland China swine for which he had many champion pigs.
He retired from farming in 1966. They moved to Osage where he drove school bus for the Osage Community Schools for many years and also worked as a carpenter. In later years Roy and his wife became very active in the antique business, buying, selling and restoration.
Roy was a member of our Savior's Lutheran Church for over 70 years. He was a friend to everyone he met.
Roy is survived by his wife, Mabel of Osage; one brother, Melvin Hackbart of Osage; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oscar and Raymond; and one sister, Elfrieda Beyer.
