RICEVILLE, IOWA - James T. Cody, 79, of Riceville died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating.

Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Riceville with military honors by Roy Gue Post 244. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Friday, Dec. 31, from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to local charities.

James T. Cody, 79, of Riceville, Iowa passed away Wednesday December 29, 2010 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.

James T. Cody was born July 18, 1931 at Cylinder, Iowa, the youngest of three children of John and Theresa Mansager Cody.

Jim married Lea Sharp on September 21, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Plover, Iowa. To this union, five children were born. They lived in Cylinder, Iowa until 1967, and then resided in Minburn, Iowa until 1973 when they moved to Riceville.

Jim began his career in banking at age 16 after graduating from Cylinder High School. He was employed by the Cylinder State Bank until 1967 and the Dallas County Savings Bank in Minburn until 1973. At that time he moved to Riceville and became manager of the Riceville Insurance Agency that was a part of the First National Bank. In 1980 he became vice-president at the bank and served in that position until his retirement in 1998. He remained a member of the bank board of directors for several years.

He was active in the community. He has served on the Mitchell County Board of Review since 1975 until the present time. He has been the treasurer of the Riceville Community Foundation, an organization that operates the community center and is the fiscal agent for several other community groups since its organization. He has been a volunteer with SHIIP since 2003, assisting those with Medicare or other problems. He has been a member of the Wapsi-Great Western trail committee since its beginning. He was president of Pinicon Manors, a community-owned low-rent housing project from its beginning in 1974 until it was sold in recent years. He served many years as a director and treasurer of the Riceville Country Club. He was active in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, having served as financial secretary, deacon, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Lea; four children: Cindy (Don) Beyer of Mitchell, Iowa, Bill of Mason City, Iowa, Tom (Cindy) of Little Cedar, Iowa and Tim (Renae) of Stewartville, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty (Al) Delfosse of Rolfe, Iowa and a brother-in-law Charles Sharp also of Rolfe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert, and brothers Myron and Palmer Cody, and sister-in-law Cleo Cody.

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Friday December 31, 2010 from 4 - 7 P.M. and one hour prior to services at the church.
