An auto crash which occured about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, October 12, on Highway 9, two miles east of Manly, proved fatal to Martin O. Field, 67, of Nora Springs, prominent farmer in the Rock Creek community north of here. Mr. Field died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday in a Mason City hospital.

William Nibbe, 38, of Amboy, Minn., was charged with manslaughter Monday as a result of the accident. Sheriff A. J. Conner of Northwood, who investigated the crash, said there were indications that Nibbe's car was over the center line of the highway when the two cars collided head on. The officer said there were indications that Nibbe had been drinking and a blood test was made.

Mrs. and Mrs. Field were going west, having been on their way to a church convention at Jackson, Minn. Nibbe's car was going east, the left fronts of both vehicles colliding.

Field's forehead was severely lacerated. Reports from the hospital stated that he suffered a concussion. His wife was also taken to the hospital with a fractured left leg, cuts and bruises. She was reported in fair condition early this week.

Nibbe was also hospitalized with cuts and bruises. He was released from the hospital Monday, at which time the manslaughter charge was filed.

Mr. Field is survived by his wife, the former Emily Bistol; one son, Irving Field of Nora Springs; a daughter, Margaret Ann, who is an instructor in the Forest City school; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Peter, Carl and Oscar Field.

Martin Field (Fjelde)

Martin Field was born August 31, 1885 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Ole Pe​d​ersen Fjelde and Ing​er​ Olsdatter, the third of their four sons. He was baptized October 1, 1885 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors were: Mr & Mrs Paul Naig; Lars P. Fjelde and Martha P. Fjelde.

Martin married​ Emilie Katherine Byst​ol December 1919 at Iowa. The couple had 2 children: a daughter Margaret (born March 9, 1921 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, married Harold Eugene Sponheim 1957, died February 22, 1988 Sioux Falls, South Dakota) and a son (still living in 2012).

1920: Martin Field 34, Emily K Field 34, Peter Field 36, Oleo P Fjelde 65, Inger Fjelde 71.
1925: Martin Field 39, Emily K Field 39, Margaret Field 3, Irling O Field 1, Peter Field 41.
1930: Martin Field 44, Emily K Field 44, Margaret A Field 9, Irving O Field 5, Peter Field 46.

Martin Field died ​October 12, 1952 at Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
