JOSEPH SQUIER, 85, DIES AT SONS HOME IN OSAGE

Osage – Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 at Champions funeral home in Osage for Joseph Squier, 85, who died Monday evening at the home of his son, Earl Squier. He has been in failing health for the past year, and bedridden the past 3 weeks. The Rev. Stiles Lessly will officiate with burial in the Osage cemetery.

Joseph Squier was born October 10, 1858, son of John B. Squier and Katherine Bently Squier, near Libertyville, Ill.

At the age of 9, he came to Floyd County, where he attended school and grew to manhood. On February 8, 1882 he married Imogene Richardson of Burr Oak. To this union were born 2 children; Grace E., now Mrs. Grace Lack of Orchard, and Roy Squier of Orchard. His wife died April 8, 1891.

September 24, 1891, he was married to Louisa Ann Earle of Osage. Several children were born, 2 of whom Harold and Mary Irene, are deceased.

Surviving are Earl Squier of Orchard; Laurence of Osage; Mrs. Urban Thompson of Osage; Maurice of Osage; and Mrs. Wilfred Repplinger of Hamilton, Ill.

Joseph Squier spent 65 years in Mitchell County. For the past 25 years he has lived with his children.

Joseph Henry Squier, 86, oldest son of John B. and Katherine Bently Squier, was born at Libertyville, Illinois, October 10, 1858, and passed away at the home of his son, Earle Squier, near Orchard, on October 18, 1943.

When he was a year and a half old his mother passed away, and when Joseph was 3 years old his father joined the armed forces of the Civil war. During this time he lived with an uncle, Almont Squier.

When the deceased was 9 years of age the family came to Floyd. There he grew to manhood.

He was married to Imogene Richardson, of Burr Oak township [Mitchell county] on February 8, 1882, and to this union were born two children, Grace E. and Roy Squier, both of Orchard.

His marriage to Louisa Anne Earle took place September 24, 1891, and the following children were born to them: Earle, of Orchard; Lawrence, Maurice, Ruth Thompson, all of Osage, and Mildred Replinger, of Hamilton, Illinois; also Mary Irene and Harold B., who are deceased.

He is survived by 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He joined the Lincoln Baptist church 35 years ago under the pastorate of the Rev. M.D. Mack. During the past 25 years he has lived with his children. He was a good father and neighbor, and highly respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at the Champion Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Stiles lessly, pastor of the Congregational church. Burial will be in the Osage cemetery.
