Rock Creek Cemetery
Gustave Paulson was born on August 4, 1894, to Jack and Anna Paulson on the farm in Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, of which he was a life-long member.
He grew up on a farm, attended rural school through the lower grades and helped his father and neighbors with farm work until he enlisted in the army in 1918. He served overseas about one year in World War I. After his discharge he was married to Margaret Bahnsen and then settled on a farm in Rock Township. Five children were born to them: G. W. Paulson, on the home farm; Dr. V. C. Paulson, San Rafel, California; Mrs. Hans (Joyce) Hveem, Osage; Mrs. John (Bonnie) Picht, Plymouth, and Twyla, Cherokee.
Mr. Paulson was energetic and ambitious and inclined to take part in work indirectly connected with farm life. He enjoyed the association of friends while working with them.
He was engineer over 30 years for the Carl Field threshing and silo filling crew. He was associated with AAA for a number of years, covering all of Rock Township in re-evaluating land tax. He served on the school board many years, acted as road boss a while and held an office in the church for a year. He retired from active farming in 1949 when his health began to fail.
He belived in good education and good improved farms and contributed freely to that cause in time, labor and money. His hobby was to make use of things from discarded material. He enjoyed traveling and mixing with people. About a year ago he became ill with a severe heart condition. He was treated at the VA hospital in Des Moines and Little Rock where everything possible was done for him.
He passed away January 28, 1954. He was buried in the Rock Creek cemetery with military funeral rites. Pall bearers were Knut Arno, Gilbert Anderson, Carl Field, Floyd Cole, Julius Olson and Walter Harmon. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Joe Johanns and Mrs. August Feldt.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, five children, eight grandchildren, three brothers; Knut Paulson, of Bismark, N.D.; Tom and Herman of Nora Springs; four sisters; Mrs. Dave Gates, Regina, Canada; Mrs. Hern Espeseth, Wild Rose, N.D.; Mrs. Hebert Heubner; Plymouth; Mrs. Alma Gast; besides many other relatives and friends.
