JOSEPH VALASEK

OSAGE - Joseph Valasek, 82, of Osage, died Thursday (May 25, 2000) at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Arthur L. Hill officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Little Cedar, with military rites conducted by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920 and American Legion Post 278.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, and one hour before services at the church.

Joseph was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Mitchell County, the son of Anton and Appolena (Smysik) Valasek. He attended country schools in Mitchell County. Joseph entered the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a radio operator.

On Oct. 24, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mildred Adams at the Union Presbyterian Church in Union Township. Joseph farmed in Mitchell County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 278 in Osage. He also was a lifetime member of the Bohemian Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920 in Osage. He served on the Little Cedar Elevator Board for 17 years and was its president for 15 of those years.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Valasek, Osage; three daughters, Patricia Newton, Yakima, Wash., Susan Baldini and her husband, David, of Waseca, Minn., and Connie Jo Fischer and her husband, Lonnie, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three sons, Joseph Valasek of Maplewood, Minn., Ronald Valasek and his wife, Jean, of Osage and Roger Valasek and his wife, Kristine, of Osage; three brothers; one sister; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister.
