RICEVILLE SERVICES SET FOR PASTOR

Riceville, Iowa – Funeral services for the Rev. Jonas Priestley, pastor emeritus of the First Congregational Church here, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the church. A prayer service in the home will precede the funeral. The Rev. Norman Halliday will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with Martz Funeral Home, LeRoy Minn, in charge.

Rev. Jonas Priestley was born in Halifax, England to the family of Jane (Bridger) and Jonas Priestley in the year of 1874. He was married to Emma Jane Jenkinson on September 8, 1900 and to this union was born seven children of which one daughter, Katy, preceded him in death.

Rev. Priestley worked with the Salvation Army under the late General Booth in Halifax, England. In 1910 he came to the United States to work in the mission field in Western South Dakota. In 1915 he helped organize the Red Cross in Iowa. He was a member of the Dowe City, Iowa Masonic Lodge, a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Riceville; and a member of the Howard County Ministers Association. Rev. Priestley also served in the Grinnell Conference for 47 years.
