GLEN HERBERT HANSON

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Glen Herbert Hanson, 87, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Ave. in Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery in Osage.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the Church.

The family of Glen Herbert Hanson has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa or to the charity of one's choice in his memory.

Glen Herbert Hanson was born on Oct. 15, 1912, the son of Andrew and Kristine (Framstad) Hanson in Mitchell County, near Osage. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage. He attended and received his education in the rural country schools in Mitchell County.

He was united in marriage to Alvera Gasteiger on Oct. 15, 1940, at the Methodist Parsonage in Mason City. After their marriage together, they farmed in the Mitchell and Floyd county area until his retirement. After his retirement, Glen also worked for the Krause Hardware in Rudd and Tatum Hardware in Nora Springs. Glen and Alvera moved into Nora Springs in 1985.

He enjoyed dancing, sports, bowling, horse shoes, fishing and helping his neighbors and other friends, but his great love and enjoyment was his wife and all of his family.

He was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, and was a former member of a bowling league in Nora Springs.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Alvera Hanson, of Nora Springs; seven children, Shirley Arnett and her husband, Jack, of Golden Shores, Ariz., Sharon Field and her husband, Dennis, of Nora Springs, Joel Hanson and his wife, Margaret, of Osage, Jerald Hanson, of Nora Springs, Kristina Rieman and her husband, Delmer, of Newell, Kurt Hanson and his wife, Linda, of Nora Springs, and Shelly Jones and her husband, Wade, of Rudd; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Hanson, of Nora Springs and Olaf Hanson and his wife, Dorothy, of San Jose, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Troy Alan Esser and Chris Field; his sister, Myrtle Christiansen; a brother-in-law, Carl Christiansen; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hanson.
