Della L. Sprung, age 80, of Osage, died Sunday November 21, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at the Little Cedar Cemetery, in Little Cedar, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

OSAGE, IOWA - Della Louise Sprung, 80, of Osage, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., of complications from a fall.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at the Little Cedar Cemetery, in Little Cedar.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Della was born on January 7, 1930, the daughter and only child of Oscar and Myra (McPhail) Johnson.
Della attended school in Little Cedar, graduating from Little Cedar High School in 1947. She attended Luther College for one year and began teaching in Stanley. She later finished her bachelor's degree by attending Upper Iowa University.
Della met and married Russell Sprung on March 24, 1951, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church, Little Cedar. To this union three children were born: Cheryl, Marilyn and Alan.
They farmed in the Little Cedar area while Della taught in McIntire and Brownville, where she was the last teacher in that one-room schoolhouse. She later taught at Riceville Elementary School. She taught in the Riceville School district for 35 years until she was forced to retire due to medical reasons.Della thoroughly enjoyed basketball, gardening, cooking, teaching, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Retired Teachers, David Ladies Aide and was always willing to help wherever she could.
Della is survived by her daughters Cheryl (Gary) Pearson of Osage, and Dr. Marilyn (Robert) Waldschmidt of Waterville, Minn.; five grandchildren, Shannon (Waldschmidt) Walters, Russell Waldschmidt, Nathan Waldschmidt, Rachel Waldschmidt and Ingbritt Pearson; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Chris and John Robert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Sprung in 2005; and her son, Alan Sprung in 2009.
