ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Robert McCready "Bob" Sherrard, 82, of rural St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 17, 1999, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 1999, at the Bolan United Methodist Church, Bolan, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, Iowa.
Bob was born July 30, 1916, at Lohrville, Iowa, the son of Robert and Blanche (McCready) Sherrard. The family moved to the Bolan area in 1918 from Lohrville. He was a lifetime member of the Bolan Church, being baptized and confirmed in that church. He graduated from Kensett High School in 1934.
He married Dorothy Opkis in 1941, in Northwood, Iowa, making their home on a farm in the Bolan area until purchasing a farm in the Carpenter, Iowa area.
Bob pursued an auctioneering career, graduating from the Reisch College of Auctioneering in 1957, becoming an instructor there until the school was sold. Bob auctioned for many years, enjoying each sale.
Bob was a lifetime farmer and greatly enjoyed raising and exhibiting registered shorthorn cattle, sheep and quarter horses. He was the 4-H Beef Superintendent at the Worth County Fair for 42 years receiving an award in 1990 for his dedicated service to 4-H youth.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of St. Ansgar; daughter, Sharon Schaub and her husband, Lynn, of Northwood; son, Robert and his wife, Jane, of Grafton; four grandsons, Eric and Brent Schaub, Rob and Ross Sherrard; brother, Arlie and wife, Avis, of Bolivar, Missouri; brother-in-law, Claude West, of Northwood; two sisters-in-law, Ann Litts, of Tucson, Arizona and Catherine Opkis, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sibling and sister, LaVern West.
