Marcus H. Hanson was born at Lyle, Mower county, Minnesota, on October 31, 1891, the son of O. P. Hanson and Tina Peterson Hanson. He died in March 1978 at the age of 86, at St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.

On June 5, 1917 he registered for the draft, during World War I. At that time he had been engaged in farming, working for W. H. McKee in Otranto township, Mitchell county. At that time he was of medium height, of slender build, and had blue eyes and light brown hair**.

He married Nellie I. Parker, daughter of Charles O. and Frances Irene (Boxwell) Parker.

He was survived by his wife, Nellie; and by a son, Merle Hanson.

Burial was in the St. Ansgar City cemetery.
