WOMAN DIED AFTER
MANY-MONTHS ILLNESS
One of the best-liked and most respected women of the community, Miss Nancy Jane Dickson, passed away at her home in East Lincoln township January 21, 1924, following several months of suffering. It is with the utmost regret that we write this notice of her death, and the many friends of the family, which include the whole county, were saddened by the loss of this fine woman.
"Janie" as she was affectionately called, has been a large factor in her township, East Lincoln, and for many years has managed the affairs of the church at that place. She had an unusual penchant for business affairs, was a keen student and had her part in the running of the Dickson brothers fine farms and properties.
Miss Dixon has been ailing for many years, and though relatives realized that she had ailments, even they did not know how serious her condition really was. She never complained, or inflicted her troubles on others, though she was suffering from tuberculosis of the bones and cancers, and up until three weeks ago insisted on being up some of the time.
Her birthplace was at the homestead in East Lincoln, on February 16, 1873, and she died at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 5 days. She attended the local schools, and was graduated from the high school with the class of 1891. After the death of her parents, while she was still quite a young girl, she kept house for her brothers, Will and John, and after John's marriage, for her brother, Will, and they continued to operate the farm. Her works of kindness and charity were many, but they were done without the knowledge of the public; for instance, she has supported a Belgian child for several years.
She is survived by the following brothers: Judge Robert Dickson, O'Neil, Nebraska, Joe Dickson, Lewiston, Montana; John Dickson, Charles City; and Will Dickson, Osage. One sister, Mary, who was married to T. G. Godfrey, passed away several years ago. Her brothers were all present for the funeral.
Services were held from the home this afternoon at 1 o'clock, and burial was made in the Osage Cemetery.
