JOSEPH E. LEIST

OSAGE, IOWA - Joseph E. Leist, 85 of Osage, formerly of the LeRoy, Minn., area, died Sunday (April 11, 1999) at the North Iowa Hospice, Mason City.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom Kolden officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

Joe was born Nov. 19, 1913, at Thor, to Joseph and Hannah (Hetherington) Leist.

On June 11, 1936, he was united in marriage to Elverna Ramsvig at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and to this union four children were born: one son, Doug, and daughters Carol Jean, Jan and Linda.

Joe worked as a carpenter and contractor for 15 years in the Humboldt area, and in 1951 he bought a farm in Oakdale township in Howard County. They lived there until moving to Osage in 1997.

He enjoyed the Senior Citizens Club of LeRoy and visiting with his many friends and neighbors. He enjoyed baseball games, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elverna, of Osage; a son, Doug and his wife, Jan Leist, of Chester; three daughters, Carol Jean and her husband, Richard Pearce, of Grinnell, Jan Leist of Marshill, N. C., and Linda and her husband, Bob Evenson, of Osage; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Leist, of Rowen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, five brothers and six sisters.
