Laura Agnes Sheehan, 1881-1892

"Gone from the home and fireside
Missed from the circle so dear,
Sadly we gather about her,
Yet we feel that her presence is near."

Laura Agnes Sheehan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Sheehan, was born Sept. 19, 1881 and died Feb. 3, 1892.

In the midst of joy we are in grief, in the midst of life we are in death.

Last Friday, just at the break of day, the spirit of little Laura took its flight. For five long, weary weeks she had patiently and heroically endured the keenest suffering from pangs of rheumatic fever, ever thoughtful, ever considerate for the comfort of others. The day before friends thought her better and hoped and planned with her for the bright future, little thinking that ere another sun, all would be planned and settled by one who ever knoweth what is wisest and doeth what is best.

She was an especially bright and ambitious child and throughout her short but merry life, her unusually happy nature made her a general favorite.

A beautiful service was held at the Catholic church, Father Cooney officiating and Prof. Bushey kindly talking charge of the singing, after which the little body was borne to the Osage cemetery. All was so beautifully solemn, so gradually sublime that we felt as if we had been with God.

"Weep not for those whom the veil of the tomb
in life's happy morning hath hid from our eyes,
Ere sin threw a blight o'er the spirit's young bloom.
Or earth had profaned what was born for the skies.
Week not for her, in her spring time she flew
To that land were the wings of the soul are un-furled.
And now, like a star beyond evening's cold dew,
Looks radiantly down on the tears of this world."
